Why donate to mental health research?
1 in 4 people will experience a life-changing mental illness or brain disorder.
These conditions have devastating effects beyond the individual, impacting families, friends, and communities.
Despite this urgent need, mental health research is significantly underfunded – only 6% of the UK’s health research – slowing progress in understanding, prevention, and treatment.
What do we do with your money?
Your donation will fund cutting-edge mental health and neuroscience research at the academic and clinical centre of excellence, King's College London and Maudsley Hospital.
You can help us find new treatments for depression and anxiety, psychosis and bipolar disorder, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
Your donation will support
Groundbreaking research that targets a wide range of psychiatric disorders
Your £10 donation could support one community group singing session for mothers experiencing depression during pregnancy, helping research improve wellbeing for both mother and baby.
Your £25 donation could support one research study visit in a secondary school to test a new way of preventing depression and anxiety in young people.
Your £50 donation could help fund the laboratory materials needed to analyse 20 biological samples, supporting cutting-edge research into how gut bacteria influence Parkinson’s disease.
Your £100 donation could fund 3 hours of specialist data analysis, helping researchers understand the role of genetics in bipolar disorder and schizophrenia to develop more personalised treatments.

Fundraisers
Cisco event
In June 2024, the Psychiatry Research Trust hosted an impactful fundraiser at Cisco in collaboration with Inspire the Mind, focusing on the importance of mental health in the workplace. This interactive panel event, brought together professionals, including our Chair Prof. Carmine Pariante, social media influencer Dr. Ally Jaffee and two Cisco Team Leads, for an open discussion on mental well-being, followed by an educational quiz. Proceeds from the event helped us directly support young researchers advancing our understanding of mental health.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this meaningful cause!
London Marathon
In April 2025, our charity's president, Prof. Carmine Pariante, stepped up to support the future of mental health research by participating in the London Marathon! With his passion for advancing mental health science, he ran to raise essential funds for the Psychiatry Research Trust. Every step he took helped us support young scientists to pursue their groundbreaking research, expand our understanding of mental health, and improve treatments for individuals worldwide. Thanks to everyone that joined in cheering him and everyone who donated to support this vital cause!
Vitality 10K Run
To keep the momentum going following the London Marathon, Prof. Carmine Pariante's team of students and researchers from King’s College London laced up to support The Psychiatry Research Trust by participating in the Vitality London 10K in September 2025! Driven by their combined research and passion to advance mental health science, the team ran together to raise essential funds for mental health research.
"As a psychiatrist and researcher, I see every day how deeply mental health affects peoples' lives and how much more we still need to learn to provide better care and support for those who are suffering. That's why I'm running to raise funds for the PRT. This cause is very close to my heart, and every donation - no matter the size! - will help drive forward vital research that has the power to change lives." - Luca Sforzini, Research Associate
